How to Clean and Store a Fursuit
A fursuit is a real investment, and basic care goes a long way toward keeping it looking good for years.
Cleaning
- Spot-clean fur with a damp cloth and a small amount of fabric-safe soap rather than fully washing the whole suit when possible.
- Removable liners and paws can often be hand-washed or machine-washed on a gentle cycle - check what your specific build allows.
- Brush fur regularly (a slicker brush works well) to prevent matting, especially after a con.
- Let the suit air dry completely before storing - packing away damp fur can cause odor and mildew.
Storage
- Store the head on a wig stand or stuffed with tissue paper to help it hold its shape.
- Keep the suit out of direct sunlight, which fades fur over time.
- A breathable garment bag is better than a fully sealed plastic bag, which can trap moisture.
If your suit needs a deeper clean, a re-fluff, or a repair, see our repairs and add-ons page.
